It all started from last month when I was planning to go for a short trip around the weekend with my family. Since we had a long tour in the last week of December 2015 in North Bengal so now the only option was a short weekend trip due to budget constraint and also chances of getting planned leaves from office seemed pretty vague. Also the vote in West Bengal is nearer. So after doing a lot of R&D, we decided to go for a short trip in Haldia.
So we booked rooms at Haldia Bhawan for 19th and 20th Mar 2016.On 18th Mar , I got a call from HDA who informed that the rooms needed to be cancelled as they have orders that the HDA bhawan needed to be entirely made available for the election officers.

No option was left for me since it was already Friday and we had hardly got any second option to think about and again go through the booking and as well making a whole new plan.
Then I thought of the option to stay at the Tribeni Sangam Tourist Complex in Geonkhali.
Mr. Purnendu of HDA arranged a booking for me(luckily the room was available in the first floor).

Now the trip :

We started around 9 AM from Kolkata in my five year old Maruti Suzuki Wagon R along with my wife and my 3.5 yr old boy. Suddenly started raining after crossing Santragachi.

On our way to Kolaghat :

We reached Kolaghat somewhere around 11 AM.We reached a bit late since there was a bit of rain on the way and I was driving at around 80km/hr.
After crossing Kolaghat the speedometer needle started climbing up as we reached Nandakumar at 11:30 AM. We went straight towards Haldia where we needed to fuel up the tank from the HP petrol pump which accepted credit card. Finally we reached Haldia gate.

We took a left turn towards Chaitannapur and from Chaitannapur crossing we took the road towards Kukrahati. A pic of the railway crossing Haldia-Kukrahati road railway crossing.

After crossing the railway line, we took left which leads to Geonkhali. This road is a narrow road which goes through village and mud house and lots of greeneries and smelled thick and dense with aroma of fresh earth and exotic flowers.

Finally around 12:30 PM we reached the Tribeni Sangam Tourist Complex which is located right in front of the river.

The person who attended ,Tapan , took us to our room. It's an AC room double bedded on the first floor river facing. The room was almost ready as he sprayed room freshener and switched on the AC as it was quite hot. After 15 mins we found that the AC is not working. So I called the reception going personally since there was no telephone in the room.
It was found that the AC is not working so they changed our room and we immediately shifted to another room ,of course , river facing.
View from the balcony :

We ordered lunch two chicken meals and one boiled rice, fish fry and dal for my son. The rates were moderate Rs 120 chicken meal, veg meal Rs 90 and fish meal Rs 110. The quantity was more than sufficient and taste is awesome. Even the vegetable(bhindi fry) tasted awesome.

After we had lunch , we took rest for 30 mins and then we decided to visit Haldia and especially Haldia Bhawan where our room was cancelled. While visiting I called a colleague of mine who stays at Haldia and he asked to give a call as soon as I reach.

The park within the resort premises.

We went to Chaitanyapur crossing and then we took left towards Haldia(Haldia-Tamluk-Mecheda road which we later found to be time consuming). After 30 mins we reached City Center area . We proceeded towards Bandar railway crossing from where we took left toward Haldia Township. From Haldia Township Park we took left towards Haldia Bhawan. A few snaps in front of Haldia Bhawan.

Once I reached Haldia I called my friend who showed me the 'ghat' near Haldia Township.
But since it started raining, we had to return. So we started towards Geonkhali again .

On the way in the Kukrahati-Haldia Road , we found cheap fast foods . So we enjoyed. You can get 12 phutcka for only Rs 10.My wife shouted in surprise as I asked her to calm down. But she said that the phutckawala worked in Kolkata for sometime and he knows the going rate in Kolkata.
After going back to the resort, I thought of watching the India-Pakistan match. But the reception was so poor that I switched off the TV in our room.
I spent some time in the balcony once everyone had dinner and slept. There were a few fishing boats but no ship.
The next morning, my son peeped out of the window and screamed . Look "Ship".."Ship". I sprung from the bed and grabbed my camera and bingo .Here is the first ship we sighted.

followed a whole lot , but here's a few :

The below is a passenger ship to Andaman.

The next day in the evening we went to Mahishadal Raj Palace which is 22 kms from Geonkhali resort. We went to the Chaitanyapur crossing and we took left towards Mahishadal . Once we reach Mashishadal, we took left towards Raj palace. This road is very narrow and is an opening to a market area and it's very chaotic and there are huge number of bikes and cars entering this road.

We returned to Geonkhali since the Rajbari officially closes by 6 PM and it was dark as well. While returning my wife got some hot parathas and chicken for dinner.
The beast who brought us here :
The overall experience was very good with some pros and cons.
The good thing is the location of the resort, the service--Although it's leased to private ,it's hard to imagine to get such service in a govt establishment. The behavior of the staff , almost all of them were very good, the food is excellent and sumptuous, adequate car parking space.

cons:
The entire property is low on maintenance. The bathrooms attached to the rooms could have been smaller than the rooms. The bathrooms are not clean and not well maintained as it should be when they are charging Rs 1200 per night.
There are no normal water available in this resort , you have to purchase water(that too 1 liter bottle @ Rs 25 each. We bought 2 liter bottles from outside).

  1. We run an organisation for the elderly. We often organise tour for elderly. Now we are going to organise a tour for DISABLE SENIOR CITIZENS. My questions are: 1. how many rooms are there?, 2. Have all the rooms facility of commode? 3. Will they allow to cook us of our own? Because we deal with sick persons. So in any tour two things are in our priorities: western style commode and self cooking. Can I get your number? www.facebook.com/thikanashimla, 9330843394 WhatsApp
